How to Prepare Your Child for School Admission Interview

Table of Contents

No school admission process for a student is complete without an interview. An interview is an integral step in the journey of getting admission into a school. Students are interviewed to assess what they have learned, how well they can communicate, what their personality is like, and more.

Interviews are also a good opportunity for your child to know more about the school. It is important that your child prepares well for it. So, here is how to prepare your child for a school admission interview.

Familiarise Your Child With the School

You can familiarise your child with the school they are interviewing for in many ways. You can research the school and tell them what you have learned through it yourself.

You can also show them pictures of the school, its teachers and even students. You can show them what uniform they might be wearing, who might teach them, and more.

If you wish to make your child more comfortable with the idea of going to that school, you can even visit there with them. The idea is for your child to be at ease with the idea of going to school if it’s their first time or going to a new school if it’s not. Even a little introduction to the place can make it familiar to them.

Teach Them Good Manners

Whether it is admission at the best school in Agra or not, good manners are a requirement everywhere. Your child should be polite, clean, punctual, and most of all, respectful. The interview will not only judge your child’s intelligence or knowledge but also their behaviour and the way they express themself.

Even saying things like “thank you” and “please” will be good enough to make a positive impression on the interviewer. Every little thing that shows that your child is well-mannered will matter in the interview.

Encourage Socialisation

Your child needs to be able to communicate properly and express themself clearly. These skills are developed through socialisation. If your child talks to their peers, and attends social situations that demand efficient communication, other such opportunities can help prepare them for the interview.

Your child needs to open up and learn to speak their mind without hesitation. When their hesitation is eliminated, their confidence builds up and it becomes easy for them to interact with the interviewer and go through the interview.

Focus on the Strengths

The strengths of your child need to be highlighted in the interview so that the interviewer can understand what your child is good at. Their personality will shine through when their strengths are displayed.

This will make a significant impact on the interview. Before your child goes for the interview, they should also know their own strengths. For this, you will have to help discover them. The interviewer can ask a question about their strengths in particular, so they should be prepared to answer.

Practice With Them

Practice makes perfect, so make sure that you practise the interview questions with them. Admission interview is not complicated but it is still a challenge for your child that can make or break their confidence.

Performing poorly in the interview can dishearten them. Going with poor preparation can also make the wrong impression on the interviewer. So, it is important that you practise for the interview with your child and thoroughly prepare them for it.

Explore Their Interests

Your child can have a number of interests and hobbies or they might still be discovering what interests they have. You need to help them out and allow them to explore what they like to do.

It will not only help in building their personality but will also make a positive impression on the interviewer if your child is clear about their interests. The interviewer might specifically ask about their interests, so if they know what they are, they will be able to give a perfect answer.

Refine Their Speaking Skills

An interview is all about speaking as the interviewer asks questions and your child answers. So, it is important for you to make sure that your child’s speaking skills are not lacking.

Even if they know the answer to the question, not being able to communicate it can ruin their chances of passing the interview. The way they speak will impact the interview, so you must help them refine their speaking skills.

Teach Them to Pay Attention

Aside from speaking, the most important thing for your child to do in the interview is to listen. If they are listening to the interviewer and not paying attention to what is being said, it can be very difficult for them to give the right answers.

Interviewers are also able to clearly see if the child is paying attention or not. If they listen to the interviewer with full concentration, they will be able to ace the interview.

Abate Their Nervousness

It is natural for your child, no matter what their age is, to get nervous before the interview. If this nervousness is carried into the interview by them, it can ruin their chances of passing for them.

Your child must be confident during the interview so that they can answer properly. Nervousness can prevent them from doing that, so you need to ensure that their nervousness is abated before the interview.

Encourage Questions

Your child’s curiosity is not their enemy, it is actually their friend. If your child is curious, it means they are hungry to learn, and that is always a positive thing. So, if your child asks you questions about the interview, answer them properly so that their doubts are cleared.

Even encourage them to ask questions about the school, classes, and more from the interviewer. It will give the impression that your child is confident, knows how to speak their mind, and has a curious streak in them.

The Bottom Line

These are some tips that can help parents in preparing their child for any school admission interview. TISA admission process includes the student interview as a brief meeting of the student as well as their parents with the school Principal, which is another way of conducting an interview. It helps the students be more comfortable about expressing themselves.
